Scenes and Storytelling

Humans are born storytellers. This one-day improvisation intensive focuses on narrative storytelling, including storytelling skills, narrative structures and long-form scenes. Using Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey as our guide, we explore how to connect scenes into a longer story by building trust and group mind skills. We also work on the fundamentals of creating strong scenes and characters, as the best stories are built on compelling characters that we can care about.

This class is for different types of students: experienced improvisers who want to improve their narrative skills, actors who want to strengthen their character work, writers and directors who want to explore narrative spontaneously on their feet, and non-actors who love improv and want a place where they can be creative that is safe and nonjudgmental. It is suitable for people who have done some improvisation work previously.
